Nonsurgical Costs

Notes:

Costs for therapy, hormones (HRT RX) and Doctors visits for hormones (HRT MD) can be understood by separating them into the first 2 years and years 3 and up.
The figures in the table are taken from known standard costs, and represent average annual cost per patient in a specified year.
After 2 years of treatment, most transsexuals have received full benefit from therapy and body-transforming hormones.
With or without surgery, at this point they usually reduce to maintenance levels of hormones, at a lower yearly rate.
However, these maintenance hormones continue for the remainder of the life of the patient, averaging about 23 years.
We count years 1 and 2 as “transition” costs, and years 3 and up as “maintenance” costs.
